The Cabinet of Doctor Curiosity

Toy Cupboard
Originally uploaded by wastedpapiers.
Filled with all manner of junk, old toys, sweet wrappers, paper gliders and plastic gew-gaws. Didn't quite fit the Sooty egg-cup in the picture.
Just back from a brisk walk into town( a slower walk coming home!) where i took some Cd's and DVD back to the library. 88p fine for being two days overdue. Not much in the "new additions" section. I borrowed a CD of Bollywood songs inspired by my purchase yesterday. Not much else in the way of bargains but did find a PC game called Hand of Fate for 49p. It's one of those "point and click" adventures about a wizardess who has to travel to the centre of the earth to get the KEY STONE to break the enchantment thats making the rocks and trees disappear. Pretty typical of it's type. Awful graphics- a few years old I imagine. My favourite "point and click" adventure was the Broken Sword but havent played the 3-D update on the PS2 yet - waiting to find it cheap at a boot sale.

Jilly is still on her travels and I'm still here all on my lonesome. She's in Newcastle today. Travelling down this afternoon back to London. She gets home tomorrow evening.
I went for a brisk walk yesterday along the country lane. It's a health thing.
Have got quite a lot of recording done for the Molecules album. All the drums, bass and rhythm guitar plus a rough vocal track. And I spent over an hour last night trying to get the lead guitar track for "Sweet Sioux" right. It took me about thirty takes.
Now I've got to figure out how to get it from the computer programmme on to CD. And send it to James who's going to add the proper lead guitar.
Hey ho!

I love this photo. Can I come play at your house?

Sure, come on over. Archie likes to sort through all the boxes of junk, toys, puzzles etc. We re-discover things we forgot we had and have a play with them. I bet there are things at the back of this cabinet we've not seen for ages!

I've just put the curry on but i forgot we were going out tonight to see the local Youth Theatre down the road at 7 so better hurry with the curry! Archie had 3 friends round this afternoon which makes a change as he's usually on his own so nice the new school seems to bring them together more. They've all gone now.Its nice and quiet! Four eleven year olds sure make a lot of noise!

I'll have to take some more photos of the other cabinets around the place. There's one just above the computer with the owrds Automatic Sprinkler Co. Ltd. printed on it. Inside are lots of Kinder Egg toys ( do you have them in the states?). Small plastic toys that come in kit form- they just pop togther. The eggs are sickly chocolate and inside is a plastic container in two halves with the toy inside that. Originally from germany i think, hence the name.

I know that feeling of forgetting about past purchases. We have boxes and boxes of junk in our garage. That's not even counting inside the house like closets and old trunks. I like the idea of photographing small spaces like junk drawers. Maybe I'll shoot a few myself so you can see our forgotten goodies. As for the eggs, I have never heard of them. They sound great though.

Wow, I bet you could spend days exploring the cubbyholes, cabinets & like there finding untold treasures, knowing you two or three, I should say. Yes, every now & then Jonathan brings me one of those eggs (they ARE German made) but he gets them at a Russian deli here. Wonderful little toys inside...I'll send a pic of one, with it toy! Enjoy your night, Hazel & Michael. Also very happy that Archie seems to be having a successful year! Bravo the Arch!

The Yoof Theatre from Chester was pretty dire- we had to sneak ot in the interval! Also it was very hot and stuffy in there and the seats very hard!

Must have been really bad for you guys to "abort the mission"! Still nice to get out though.

Hey, welcome to the blogging community Creative T. at least the comments section!
Looking for the right kind of material for collage and assemblage can be quite hard at times- I get more choosy as I get older! Good luck with your search in Burbank. Isnt that where the film studios are? maybe you will find some old film sets dumped by the side of the road?

Creative T...isn't it fun, the scavenger hunt, knowing all these bits & pieces tossed out will eventually make art! And you are so right, the less spent the better...it forces us to be creative. And that's the thrill.

Nice to see so many of the old mail art fraternity turning up on these blogs though they seem reluctant to embrace it fully.
I felt like that too once but "saw the light" and now a born again blogger!
