December
Here we are in December already and nearly the festive season. It soon comes round when you are full of colds and bugs. Its been a nasty few weeks of Covid and now man flu ( or lady flu ? it's hard to tell them apart ) The booster jabs have little or no effect. Anyway I wont go into the gory details. Lovely to have Archie home for a few days - here he is with his Mom - lighting up the traditional fuse. Or trying to. Soggy paper? Soggy fuse? maybe just a impregnated doily? A coaster? We shall probably never know. Anyway we shall attempt to eat drink and be merry despite all the germs and bugs. Same to you!

Walk To Community Orchard
This mornings walk to the community orchard and the fishy ponds. Took some bread to feed the ducks but only one coot did we see and he didn't seem interested. Nice November day - quite mild.

Old Warrington Road
Nice walk after dumping stuff at the local tip. Amused by the tip feller's Halloween display of ghouls and skeletons! Nice to get rid of all the garden rubbish and stuff from Dave's house. We felt a lot lighter! The woods looked wonderful in their autumnal foliage. A few squirrels being frisky among the fallen leaves. Lots of dog walkers and their crazy hounds.

Walk Down The Canal Path
Plagued by ladybirds on our walk to the canal this afternoon. I had 5 on me at one time. Lots of spots. Hazel says these are the kind that are dangerous and go for the throat! I think she was kidding. Anyway.......we could only snap this one as the others all flew off or vanished up sleeves and down trouser turn-ups etc.So then we went over a bridge. We saw swans and some boats. One was full of sweets in cellophane bags. My teeth ached just looking at them!Lovely sunny day - was like being back in July again!

Early Morning Walk - October 3rd. 2024.
This mornings early walk down the Old Warrington Road after dropping off Archie and Meriel at the station. ( Off to Manchester and Marsden ) Saw some daft dogs and a dead rabbit and dead vole. A friendly twitcher daggling with clickers and cameras was recording the Cettis Warbler over by the Flashes. A rarity it seems. He was counting all the wood pigeons ( over 2,000 ) . Geese flying overhead honking away. Sunny for a change.

Blakemere Boot Sale
A few bargains at the last boot of the year including 6 films on DVD - Foreign Correspondent by Hitchcock - Nolan's first feature "Following" , Italian film -"Libero", Jim Jarmusch's "Only Lovers Left Alive" etc. Also an A3 folder for my larger collages. Hazel found a bathroom mirror and a pad of multi-coloured crafting card.

Doreen Jones RIP
The very nice "Order of Service" for Doreen ( Hazel's Mom) with additional embroidered hankie ( Hazel sewn ) and hair pin and ephemera ( a crossword clue maybe?) that Doreen found essential in life. She will be greatly missed. (Archie and Meriel did the design and layout and printed it at home on our new Epson Ecotank printer ) Thanks to all for kind messages of support and who came along to say goodbye. It was a very moving eulogy and Hazel and Audrey's rendition of "Little Dog's Day" by Rupert Brooke will be remembered for a long time to come! Doreen would have approved of the tea and cakes (so many cakes!) that we enjoyed later in the day.

Knutsford Boot Sale
Pleasant day for a boot sale despite threat of thunderstorms. Luckily they didnt arrive until the afternoon. The annual scouts boot sale on the Heath was well attended as usual with well over a 100 stalls/cars. Got a few bargains including some fine line pens which are always useful and fraction of the price you would pay in the stationers. Some eclectic DVD's including Bal and Rome, Open City and Come and See. Hazel found some plants, a wire milk crate, candles, a brooch for her sister, tin toys etc. We were happy with our purchases. We picked up Audrey on the way home as they are going to the hospital later to visit their Mom who was taken in yesterday with suspected sepsis. Thankfully it's not that but a similar infection and being treatd with antibiotics. They are keeping her in for a couple of days to keep and eye on her.

Walk To Orchard and Fishy Pond
Nice sunny walk this Bank Holiday Monday. Got a few apples from the community orchard. Hazel trimmed a few brambles that spilled over the pavement and threatened to trip people up. Her good deed for the day. Saw a swan and some baby coots down the fishy pond. Sad to see it over grown with weeds. We had fun using the built in apps on the Samsung camera. Chortle!

Boot At Blakemere
This mornings boot sale bargains from Blakemere. In a different field as the normal one was taken over by a travelling fun fair. Slim pickin's but I did find some nice old postcards including one from Southend & Westcliff which is always nice to find. The "Meat Card" is quite amusing too - even for a vegetarian. Hazel got some useful things- candles, gardening gloves, wire baskets, plants etc.

Walk Around Lostock
A few photos of our walk this morning. Hazel picked a few blackerries for her sister who wasn't that keen it turns out. Took a digital clock round for her Mom who's sight is failing and needs a larger dial to see what the time is. This also shows the day and the month which is handy.
