Tone And Pene For Lunch
Lovely warm day here with bees and butterflies popping up around every corner. Nice to see our old chums Tone and Pene - here for lunch ( vege lasagne and salad) Hazel made the bread and butter pudding with lashings of custard! O dear - back to the diet tomorrow! Had a pleasant walk to the fishy ponds and saw a swimming frog - at least we thing it was a frog? Sadly only one swan remains. Not sure what happened to the other one. Home for some banana cake and tea in the summer house. Yum!

Swan Feeding
This mornings windy walk to the fishy ponds and the River Dane. Bbbrrrr! A bit nippy but nice to get out and stretch our legs. Saw a man with a bucket and trowel. We thought he was feeding the swans but he was very wary of the swans as they waddled towards us looking menacing but all they wanted was Hazel's frozen peas. Luckily she used them as a decoy and the man with the bucket ran passed and vanished into a hedge. What would he have been collecting I wonder? Mushrooms?

More Walks
Nice walk around the fishing ponds and community orchard this afternoon with our old chums Tone and Pene after lunch. I made a nut roast with all the trimmings and Hazel made an experimental apple turnover ( and whipped cream ) which was a great success. Quite mild out todays and felt overdressed in my duffle coat - phew! Home afterwards for chocolate dates and tea. Hazel made the choc dates ( with peanut butter and peanut topping ) which is a very healthy treat ( really yes, it really is!) . We watched the spider in the window spinning a web for Halloween. We like add on these extra entertainments for all our guests!

Swan Feeders
This mornings wanderings around the local fishing ponds to feed the swans and ducks. They had some peas and grains already so rejected our stale bagels and who can blame them! The only bird interested was a passing seagull that swooped down and grabbed a chunk before the coots could sniff it. The corn has been harvested. Hazel expresseda desire for a metal detector after watching The Detectorists for the umpteenth time. It does look fun but not sure I have the patience for such things. Cutting up bits of paper is slow enough!

Walk To River Dane
This mornings walk to the Community Orchard and the fishing ponds. No bread this time but the duckies kept following us around the pond looking hopeful. Very sunny and warm. Brught blue sky. Good to get out before it got really hot. The maize is gettig quite high now. High as an elephants eye. Home for collaging and lunch.

Community Orchard
This afternoons walk around the fishy ponds and community orchard with Hazel Jones and old chums Tone and Pene. Had a nice lunch and a do-it-yourself trifle. Needed a walk to help reduce the waistline after all those calories! Ducks and coots doing well. Slight drizzle but very muggy.

Walk To Community Orchard
Nice wander down to the River Dane and the fishing ponds etc. Nice to sit on a bench and listen to the birds singing. Sadly the swans had departed and a couple of ducks had taken over the nest. A heron hiding in the reeds nearby. Someone had mown the nettles and brambles with a big tractor by the looks of it. Made it look a bit more accessible. Hazel took her snippers and snipped a few stray brambles along the way. The clouds rolled by the sun came out briefly. Baby ducks not interested in Hazel's porridge oats she took along to feed the swans. Probably why they took off!

Birthday Treats
Treats all round on this MERZ day. After opening my present and cards went to the fishing ponds to feed the swans and ducklings with porridge oats. Some tiny floglets still wandering about on the paths. They seem to like it judging by the commotion in the water! Even the female swan left the nest to see what all the fuss was about! Nice to get out in the cool before the sun broke though the haze and it warmed up. Threatens to be 30's again today. Phew!

Walk To Community Orchard
This mornings walk to the community orchard and the fishy ponds. Took some bread to feed the ducks but only one coot did we see and he didn't seem interested. Nice November day - quite mild.

Walk To Orchard and Fishy Pond
Nice sunny walk this Bank Holiday Monday. Got a few apples from the community orchard. Hazel trimmed a few brambles that spilled over the pavement and threatened to trip people up. Her good deed for the day. Saw a swan and some baby coots down the fishy pond. Sad to see it over grown with weeds. We had fun using the built in apps on the Samsung camera. Chortle!

Walk To Pond And Community Garden
This mornings walk to the fishy pond and the community orchard and garden. All the berries had been picked but we found some wild bramble berries. Hazel trimmed the spikey tendrils with her handy seccateurs. A passing dog walker praised her initiative. Three baby coots on the pond and two angry swans who had been molting by the looks of it. Lots of white feathers floating in the reeds. A bit fresher today thankfully.
