Knutsford
This mornings wanderings around Knutsford charity shops and indoor market. I forgot my camera so Hazel kindly took all these. A few bargains including some "world music" CD's and some postcards to collage. Also some cheap Pritt stick which is always useful. Hazel got some card , postcards, Pritt stick, fabric, chutney and stickers. Popped round to see Audrey who was having a nap. She woke up enough to have a chat and then it was time for lunch.

Knutsford
This mornings walk around the narrow streets of Knutsford ( where the Knuts live!). They all drive round in massive 4 by 4's and pedestrians are treated like bollards or skittles. You have to dive out of their way. The usual charity shop run. No bargains. Newly refurbished Oxfam looked horrible with nasty cheap wood scraps shelving. Ugh! Dogs and annoying old folk getting in the way! (Victor Meldrew mode gets switched on!) Hazel posted a parcel in the post office at the back of Sainsburys and it took 20 minutes to fill in a customs form! I went off to buy some capers. I should have got onions too as we have run out I discovered when we got home. Also went and sat in the Tatton Park as it was lovely and sunny - to watch the enormous planes fly over from nearby Manchester airodrome. Lost of crocus and daffodils in evidence. Popped in a church to look at the stained class. A posh bloke gave us a guided tour thinking we were local. "These photos show the floor being dug up and the underfloor heating being installed". When he saw us taking photos we were kindly asked to leave as the choir was about to practice.

Knutsford
This mornings wanderings around sunny Knutsford. Sadly the Oxfam shop was closed for refurbishment but some other were open. Got a couple of DVD's inc. "Squid And The Whale" and French film "Villa Amalia". Hazel got a couple of things - a book and a badge that matched her coat. Walked to the gates of Tatton Park but it's closed on Mondays for some reason? Maybe the rutting deer need a welcome rest. A long weekend of rutting can take it out of you! Some mad drivers around - thankfully we got home in one piece.

Boy Scouts Boot - Knutsford
A few bargains from our morning trip to Knutsford on the Heath. Lots of punters despite the threat of rain. Got a great pile of DVD's including some foreign films on the excellent Artificial Eye label. Nice little pressed tin railway workers hut ( Hornby ). Hazel found some gadgets including a rare soap saver. Also a flour sifter. Then to Audreys to clean up a desicated mouse she caught in a trap about a year we just discovered! Ugh! Now the rain is really coming down - we were so lucky this morning!

Waffle
I noticed whilst researching the date of the Knutsford woggle sale by the scouts that my past blogging efforts were a lot more chatty and descriptive. I guess I have less to say as I get older or maybe I'm more lazy? Anyway chucks - will try to waffle a bit more in this post - not that anyone is that bothered!? This fuzzy photo gleaned from the interweb is a selection of rubber stamps used in mail art circles. It has my hand carved postman in it. One of the first I made back in the early 80's when it was fun and new and exciting - discovering new addresses to write to and the postage was cheap. I do still carve a stamp when the mood takes me but not as much fun now my eyes are not as sharp as they were. I have to use a magnifying glass illuminated doo dad.
Its the bank hoilday today and wondering if we are going to a boot sale. Thats why I was looking up the Knutsford woggle sale. Seems they were in early September so maybe none today. Only the big one at Adams near thingy which is far too big and full of professionals who take to same stuff every week. Its the Blakemere next week which is far more interesting - smaller with folkd who have cleared out their sheds and lofts so more variety and usually a lot cheaper as people want shot of it and don't want to take it home again. Have a good day whatever you do!

Knutsford
Nice wander round Knutsford this morning to see the crocus's and daffs in the churchyard and mooch around the charity shops. Got a few CD's including Fats Wallers Best Of, Ry Cooder's best of and a Vince Taylor comp. Hazel bought some postcards and cookery book. Then to Audrey's to hand over a CD jewel case she wanted for some project or other - a quick chat and home for lunch.

Knutsford Boot Sale
Pleasant day for a boot sale despite threat of thunderstorms. Luckily they didnt arrive until the afternoon. The annual scouts boot sale on the Heath was well attended as usual with well over a 100 stalls/cars. Got a few bargains including some fine line pens which are always useful and fraction of the price you would pay in the stationers. Some eclectic DVD's including Bal and Rome, Open City and Come and See. Hazel found some plants, a wire milk crate, candles, a brooch for her sister, tin toys etc. We were happy with our purchases. We picked up Audrey on the way home as they are going to the hospital later to visit their Mom who was taken in yesterday with suspected sepsis. Thankfully it's not that but a similar infection and being treatd with antibiotics. They are keeping her in for a couple of days to keep and eye on her.

Knutsford
A few snaps from our morning in sleepy Knutsford. the sun was shining and the crocus's were in bloom in the churchyard - planes bound for Manchester airport flew low overhead. Got a few bargains in the charity shops. Books about quilts and Miriam Margoyles were Hazel's choice. I found a game and a useful address book as my other of 25 years is falling to bits. Other bargains included a plastic measure, some glass tumblers, a garlic grater ( we thought it was a fancy soap dish!) CD or Jimi hendix at BBC, etc etc. Came home via Lostok to deliver some cat food and chat with Hazel's sister and Mom.

Boot Sale at Knutsford
This mornings bumper boot sale bargains at the annual Scouts jamboree at Knutsford on the common. I got a box of letters word making game, badges, a rubber for BIG mistakes, a little plastic bird that makes a noise like a frog. Hazel got tons of stuff including flower pots, xmas crackers, wooden coat hangers, spoons, a small vice, Lego calendar, collar stiffeners? etc. etc. Hazel has done something to her back so cant bend down to get things under tables which makes life tricky at boot sales where most things are under tables or spread about on old bits of carpet. We stopped off at Granma and Audrey's on the way home to drop off the flower pots they wanted for their bulbs. They grumbled that they had just got up and hadnt had any breakfast and Granma didn't "have her ears in". So we had to shout at her.

Knutsford Heath Boot Sale
Nice sunny rummage around the bumper boot sale at Knutsford heath this morning. Got a few bargains including a box of candles, lead soldiers, blank postcards, note paper, knitting counters, board game, plants, glass flower arrangement thingy, and surprise snake in box. Had a little walk in the woods by the side of the heath. Then to Lostock to show off our purchases and have a chat in the front garden.

Cinema
Treated ourselves to the cinema yesterday to see "First Man" which is excellent despite all the shakey camera work. Archie saw it recently and and gave it the thumbs up. Had to go all the way to Knutsford though as Hazel had a dental app. and we missed the matinee in Northwich. The Curson is being re-furbished with two smaller screens being added so the smell of paint and plaster added to the weird multi-media experience. Found this free badge in the foyer for Mike Leigh's new film which Hazel thinks is called "Portaloo" . Now that's a different film altogether!

Knutsford Boot
We went to the giant boot sale at Knutsford this morning. Got a few old postcards including these two of Blackpool Tower. Also a folder for collages. Hazel got a few odd bits for her odd bits collection - a measurer for eyes, picture hangers, fold away magnifying glass and some ceramics etc. This after noon walked through Carey park to the Anderton Lift along the River Weaver and had lunch in the beer garden of the pub nearby. Only asked for a sandwich but it arrived with a pile of chips and salad - so much for a light lunch! Waddled back into town to get some jelly for Hazel's Mom who is having teeth trouble (had one out and two fillings) so finding it hard to eat solids. No jelly in Marks & Sparks so got her some custardy trifles etc. to try.

Knutsford
Nice walk around Knutsford this morning to see a few charity shops and mooch round the graveyard. Amazing to see the path made from old grave stones and this huge wall made of grave stones. The coffee morning was interesting too we saw advertised - a white elephant stall, home made chutneys and jams, cakes and a book stall. Hazel bought two knitted outfits with hair and eyes for Cadburys creme eggs. I found a DVD of a French film about a ventriloquist with Eric Von Stroheim. Also got a small picture frame from another charity shop. Sadly the Oxfam was closed for refurbishment. Popped in to see Hazel's Mom and sister afterwards at Lostock - saw some Spring lambs on the way.

Where The Knuts Come From
Went to a big boot sale in Knutsford today on the Heath. A Fun Day in aid of the Scouts and Guides I think. No second hand woggles or knotting badges to be seen though. The sun was shining so a good turn out. Organised parking which is awalys good though the chap next to us left his driver's door open. We kindly closed it for him incase he really had wandered off distracted by the thought of bargains!
I didnt get much really considering the many stalls. Nice to find some buff card wallets that will be good for the assembling book covers I am making at the moment. 14 people have promised to take part but only 4 have sent pages so far which is fine by me. I would quite like a copy myself and if 14 people send pages I would have to go without a copy! Serves me right for not getting my sums correct.
Also got two DVD's of films that are unknown to me - I Love You Philip Morris ( with Jim Carey) and J'taime Paris by work by 20 directors all submitting 5 minute love stories set in Paris.
Hazel got a nice old air raid wardens bicycle lamp which was made it illuminate your front tyre and little else (whoever she might be?). Also a new dial for Archie's dial collection. He got some rubbish trucks so he was happy. Dustbin lorries rather than trucks that are rubbish!
The postcards here are from our jaunt to the antique place near us the other day.

Knutsford

Nice day out to Knutsford to meet up with Tony and Penny. First we did a tour of the charity shops and suchlike. Hazel popped in a clothes shop whilst me and Archie looked in the crafty art/card shop. Didnt find any bargains. Archie bought a china pig with a slot. Some project he has in mind.
Then we met up with Tony and Penny at a pizza place which was incredibly noisy being half term - full of toddlers and kids making a racket. Could hardly hear yourself think!

Nice pizza though . I had the goats cheese and spinach.
Afterwards we wandered around for a while trying to find out where to have a coffee. Penny Farthing was packed also so went in the Visitors Centre to see the tapestry that 3,000 locals made. A helpful lady volunteer told us all about it.
Back to the Penny Farthing Museum Cafe which was not so crowded now and we found a seat next to some rusty boneshakers.
Waiting in today for the gasman again. Seems to be an ongoing saga! Hope he arrives soon - I hate waiting around for people to turn up.
Out for a walk this morning in the sunshine - lovely springlike weather, Felt very overdressed in my duffle coat. Had to turn the central heating off as it was so hot indoors.
Ideal day to put a new roof on the shed - nevermind. Hopefully it will nice again tomorrow.

The Knutsford Travesty
I took this clip today whilst waiting for the bus to Rudheath. I think I must have just missed one because i seemed to be be waiting ages. Here you can see the Old Post Office which is now a big cavenous pub. The new post office is hardly big enough to swing a cat in!
I walked to town despite the slippy conditions and bought a few things we desperately needed like a 30p video of Lee Evans "Live In Bristol" and a candle snuffer. Saw Treena and Betty in the Age Concern shop too - they both looked very well and said they had good Christmas's.
Woolies looked very empty and sad - one man was clattering about inside, loading shelving units and other shop paraphenalia onto a trolley.
Hazel is in the workshop cutting out round bits of metal for some new work.
A late nail arrived today from Ruth Fledermaus in Alabama. She hasn't been in touch for about 6 years so a nice surprise. It was a lucky nail to ward off evil spirits she reckoned.
I also borrowed the film "Man On A Wire" about the chap who walked from one twin tower to the other via a high wire in the 80's or 90's thats just been released on DVD.
Its' been too cold to venture out most days so weve stayed in and huddled around the radiator.
We did go to Knutsford yesterday though as we were going stir crazy. There weren't many sales on and the shops that had them were too snooty for us to go in!
We popped into the history centre or whatever its called to see the renowned Knutsford Tapestry which was depicted on a jig saw I gave Granma Jones for Xmas. Hazel had seen it before a few years back but I never had. A kindly old gent showed us round as it was housed in a special constructed room at the back - through a courtyard full of weird sculptures and farming implements etc.
He explained that it started out as a small project, just 2 feet by 6 feet and quickly grew when other folk in the town heard about it and wanted their shop or house included. So it turned into a huge community project with many panels being worked on ( cross stitched) at once and when completed the whole thing was sewn together by some genius so you could hardly see the joins. Now it comprises of three huge panels some 20 feet long by 5 feet high.
