Holmes Chapel

We dropped the kids off at Holmes Chapel railway station so they could get the train to Manchester Airport - on their journey to Dublin. They will be back for New Year which will be nice. We popped in to the nearby charity shop on the way home. A kind man lent me his reading glasses as I had stupidly left mine at home. I looked at the CD's and found a couple I lliked the look of. A Nina Simone and Blind Boys Of Alabama. Hazel got a couple of wooly jumpers. Then a quick walk round the Shakeley Mere. Lots of sausage dogs - they seem very poplular at the moment depiste their short legs! I hid behind some trees - part of a Fluxus performance for our friend Allen in the USA.

Nantwich

Nice morning in one of our favourite towns - Nantwich - a 35 minute drive away. Its market day so pretty busy and lots to see. Said hello to the toy man. He had no toys for us today - he was enjoying his lamb and mint sauce sandwich! We got a few bargains from the table top sale in the Civic Hall - a wooden corkscrew shaped like a guardsman which made me think of my dad who was a grenadier guard and guarded Windsor Castle and various other places. Hazel got some glass beads, wire baskets for the pantry and lots of material for yet more patchwork quilts I expect. Also found a copy of "Amadeus" on DVD for 50p that we had been looking for. Pretty sure we have a copy somewhere but couldn't find it the other day. Also DVD of Prizzi's Honour - a Jack Nicholson film that I don't remember watching. Popped in the deli to see the wonderful ephemera collection and old shop display by the coffee shop at the back. Nearby was a sign that said "Beware Of Trains" on a church wall! Home again via the hospice warehouse . Hazel got some threads, thimbles and weird sewing gadget in a small basket.

Chester

Neglected to take any photos whilst in Chester today so this collage no way reflects on the nice fish 'n' chips we had for lunch we took over to Beth and Simons. Went round the usual charity shops and market etc. Dind't find much just a couple of DVD's and some bread rolls. Hazel found some toggles and some woggles ( that's not what they are called!) and some chocs. The Chinese lady in the chippy was very jolly and wished everyone who came in a "Happy Afternoon!" in a high pitched squeaky voice. This will be our mantra for the rest of the week one feels.

Busman Banter

A wander round the charity shops this morning. Found a couple of films that might be worth watching "Get Out" and "Wind River". On the bus on the way home there was some amusing banter between the portly bus driver and a chubby passenger- Passenger - I need to loose some weight. Bus Driver - Me too - I've got an over-active...err... Passenger - Thyroid? Buss Driver - No.. knife and fork! Chuckles all round There was more but this raised the most smiles.
