Boot sale and Blakemere

I forget to take my camera so these are from the archives. The oldest being from the 70's when I helped Trevor with some junk he had compiled for a boot sale near him in Staffs. Thats a friend of his standing by the stall. Actually it may have been Cheshire as he lived near Tarporley at the time. The others are more recent at Whitegate Cricket Club and Blakemere I think. Hazel and Beth looking through stuff. I didn't get anything today as it was mostly horse tack and equine related gear at the Equine Centre near Tarvin. It was very boring although interesting to see the horses being readied for jumps and trotting or whatever they do. So many huge barns full of stables. It went on for miles! There was also a saddlery and resturant etc. How the other half live! After that we went to root through the junk at the antique centre. Hazel found repro tin toy but it was £8 and we have plenty. Another chap seemed interested so she let him have it.

Boot Sale At Blakemere

Managed to get to the boot sale at Blakemere before the drizzle started. Got a few things including a tin toy and tiny John Bull Printing Set. Hazel was delighted to find an iconic toy from her childhood she's always wanted - the Arnold Palmer Pro Shot Golf by Marx. I've never seen her so happy! Also got some plant pot thingies, propelling pencil, toffee tin with doggy on, Baylis and Harding bathing stuff and some plants. I sheltered under a tree for a while as the rain got quite heavy and I neglected to take a brolly. Doh!

Blakemere - First Boot of The year

Nice to get back to some booting. Bumper crowd at the field in Blakemere. So many in fact that there was an overflow in the field next door. Got a few bargains including some art house DVD's , a game, some candles, pots , plants, boxes, garden stuff, lovely 3-D printed toys by a young lad who gave us a free rabbit for buying so many! We told his mother he should do a foundation course at art school. He was only 12 so has plenty of time to decide. We are biased of course.

Boy Scouts Boot - Knutsford

A few bargains from our morning trip to Knutsford on the Heath. Lots of punters despite the threat of rain. Got a great pile of DVD's including some foreign films on the excellent Artificial Eye label. Nice little pressed tin railway workers hut ( Hornby ). Hazel found some gadgets including a rare soap saver. Also a flour sifter. Then to Audreys to clean up a desicated mouse she caught in a trap about a year we just discovered! Ugh! Now the rain is really coming down - we were so lucky this morning!

Blakemere Boot Sale

Penultimate boot sale at Blakemere. Always a treat but soon to stop for Winter which is a shame. Got a few bargains including a bunch of CD's for pennies. Bob Dylan, J.J. Cale, The Who, Salsa and Latin comps etc. Hazel bought useful stuff like a paint brush, spanner, bodger ( for rag rugs) , enamel pie dish, plants and a black currant fruit bush for the garden. The sun was out so a fun time rummaging through boxes of old junk. People very friendly and remarked on my badges. I always like to wear a few. Home again for some collaging and catching up with the interweb. Some drizzle but now the sun is out again.

Waffle

I noticed whilst researching the date of the Knutsford woggle sale by the scouts that my past blogging efforts were a lot more chatty and descriptive. I guess I have less to say as I get older or maybe I'm more lazy? Anyway chucks - will try to waffle a bit more in this post - not that anyone is that bothered!? This fuzzy photo gleaned from the interweb is a selection of rubber stamps used in mail art circles. It has my hand carved postman in it. One of the first I made back in the early 80's when it was fun and new and exciting - discovering new addresses to write to and the postage was cheap. I do still carve a stamp when the mood takes me but not as much fun now my eyes are not as sharp as they were. I have to use a magnifying glass illuminated doo dad. Its the bank hoilday today and wondering if we are going to a boot sale. Thats why I was looking up the Knutsford woggle sale. Seems they were in early September so maybe none today. Only the big one at Adams near thingy which is far too big and full of professionals who take to same stuff every week. Its the Blakemere next week which is far more interesting - smaller with folkd who have cleared out their sheds and lofts so more variety and usually a lot cheaper as people want shot of it and don't want to take it home again. Blakemere Boot

This mornings bargains at the monthly Blakemere boot sale. Everything was mostly 50p and £1. Hazel got two watering cans and some blouses. Also some plants and jewelry. Too much stuff to show here! The rain held off thankfully. W are home now - its 10am and I feel like we've been out all morning!

Blakemere Boot Sale

A few bargains at the last boot of the year including 6 films on DVD - Foreign Correspondent by Hitchcock - Nolan's first feature "Following" , Italian film -"Libero", Jim Jarmusch's "Only Lovers Left Alive" etc. Also an A3 folder for my larger collages. Hazel found a bathroom mirror and a pad of multi-coloured crafting card.

Knutsford Boot Sale

Pleasant day for a boot sale despite threat of thunderstorms. Luckily they didnt arrive until the afternoon. The annual scouts boot sale on the Heath was well attended as usual with well over a 100 stalls/cars. Got a few bargains including some fine line pens which are always useful and fraction of the price you would pay in the stationers. Some eclectic DVD's including Bal and Rome, Open City and Come and See. Hazel found some plants, a wire milk crate, candles, a brooch for her sister, tin toys etc. We were happy with our purchases. We picked up Audrey on the way home as they are going to the hospital later to visit their Mom who was taken in yesterday with suspected sepsis. Thankfully it's not that but a similar infection and being treatd with antibiotics. They are keeping her in for a couple of days to keep and eye on her.

Boot At Blakemere

This mornings boot sale bargains from Blakemere. In a different field as the normal one was taken over by a travelling fun fair. Slim pickin's but I did find some nice old postcards including one from Southend & Westcliff which is always nice to find. The "Meat Card" is quite amusing too - even for a vegetarian. Hazel got some useful things- candles, gardening gloves, wire baskets, plants etc.

This mornings boot sale bargains from the Blakemere rummage. Lots of stalls despite the drizzle and cold wind. felt more like October! Brrrr! Bumped into Bob who had a battered trumpet on his table. he said it had a mouthpiece but he sold it online as it was a rare Foden's Brass Band one. Hazel did well with tons of plants. a shirt, zips, necklace, badges, a coloured glass for a candle, a penguin lighter, an ostrich pencil sharpener etc. I only found two badges and nice set of Rapidograph pens with spare ink.

This mornings bargain hunt around the drizzly fields of Blakemere. I didn't find anything but Hazel bought some perfume, candles, mesh bags and some measuring jugs.

Boot Sale - Moss Farm

A few bargains from the boot sale over at Moss farm today. The weather wasa bit cloudy but no rain. Hazel got all these. I found nothing. Bob did the painting "Peeking Duck". He gave it to Hazel but she insisted on buying it - ok 50p he said. She also bought some old tins and a mysterious compact with "paddy" on the front. It has an unusual mechanism inside that pushed powder out in small ammounts through slits in a revolving doodad. She also got a solar light bulb, a lamp and several other object darts.

Blakemere Boot Sale

This mornings finds at the Blakemere boot sale. Only half the usual punters but still a lot to rummage through. I got a set of alphabet stamps for 20p. Hazel found a few things including some magic tricks, a brooch, a plant, a smelly candle and some old cigarette cards. Still very humid and nice to get back to our nice cool house.

A few bargains from this mornings rummagings down at Blakemere. Hazel found all of them. Nothing for me. I must be getting more picky in what I buy these days! The Xmas crackers will be useful in December. The squares of kids materials for future craft projects Hazel has in mind. A posh Buckingham Palace mug to drink her tea out of. She has one already but handy to have a spare in case the other breaks. A nasty clock but with a useful mechanism or so we thought. Also some geraniums and cigarette cards about household hints. It wasa nice sunny morning but now clouded over with a cool breeze.

Moss Farm Boot Sale

A nice sunny day for a boot sale down at Moss Farm. Not many cars or stalls. I didnt find anything but had a chat to Bob who was there selling an odd selection of things - cameras, binoculars, DVD's, books, jewelry etc. Hazel bought some jewelry for her sister. Also some plants - lupins, hollyhocks etc. from another stall holder. We drove to Verdin park for a short walk up the hill and sat on a bench in the sun. A few dog walkers but very quiet. We noticed the extension to the hospital being built nearby. They seemed be using part of the car park which seemed rather short-sighted as it's usually full up! I neglected to take my camera so here is an old collage of a boot sale I did.

First Boot Sales Of The Year

Slim picken's at the two boot sales we went to this morning at Vagrants and Weston (near Crewe). Nice sunny day but a bitter wind was blowing so made it feel quite nippy. I should have worn my duffle coat! The thin raincoat wasn't doing it for me. Hazel had a thinner coat too and wished she'd worn something more substancial. I found nothing at Vagrants and the toilets were locked so took ages to get the bloke to open them. He said the wind had blown it shut. The next sale was a short drive away on the way to Stone. Much bigger but mostly household stuff and kids toys etc. Found a DVD of a Bill Murray film I'd not seen "Larger Than Life". Hazel got a few things including a fancy magic set in a wooden box, a moustache cup inscribed to a "Mr Harry Jones", some plants, an enamel bowl etc. It was nice to get back to the warm car.

Scrumping

This afternoons wander down the sunny community orchard to grab some apples for an upside down French apple tart. Hazel fancied taking one over to Daves. Nice stroll round the coot pond. One coot emerged from the reeds in quite a hurry. Quiet down there except for some dog walkers and the birds twittering. Earlier we went to two boot sales near Crewe at Vagrants - the last of the season and the other at Weston cricket club. I didnt find anything but Hazel got a few things including an enamel bread bin to put flour and pulses in. a toffee tin, and other stuff I forget but you can see them here in this here photo-

Boot Sale at Knutsford

This mornings bumper boot sale bargains at the annual Scouts jamboree at Knutsford on the common. I got a box of letters word making game, badges, a rubber for BIG mistakes, a little plastic bird that makes a noise like a frog. Hazel got tons of stuff including flower pots, xmas crackers, wooden coat hangers, spoons, a small vice, Lego calendar, collar stiffeners? etc. etc. Hazel has done something to her back so cant bend down to get things under tables which makes life tricky at boot sales where most things are under tables or spread about on old bits of carpet. We stopped off at Granma and Audrey's on the way home to drop off the flower pots they wanted for their bulbs. They grumbled that they had just got up and hadnt had any breakfast and Granma didn't "have her ears in". So we had to shout at her.

Penultimate Boot at Blakemere

Nice sunny morning and a big turn out at Blakemere's sloping field. I got a pile of DVD's including Frank Capra's "Arsenic And Old Lace" that Ive been wanting to see for some time. Cheap copies are hard to find on Ebay. Also some Ferench films, The Old Man And The Gun with Robert Redford and Sissy Spaceck etc. Hazel got a few things too including a big bucket shaped ceramic, a plant, some pencils, and theatre binoculars which has printed on them "NOT TO BE TAKEN AWAY". Now we have two pairs on our mantlepiece with all the other clutter!
