First Boot Sales Of The Year

Slim picken's at the two boot sales we went to this morning at Vagrants and Weston (near Crewe). Nice sunny day but a bitter wind was blowing so made it feel quite nippy. I should have worn my duffle coat! The thin raincoat wasn't doing it for me. Hazel had a thinner coat too and wished she'd worn something more substancial. I found nothing at Vagrants and the toilets were locked so took ages to get the bloke to open them. He said the wind had blown it shut. The next sale was a short drive away on the way to Stone. Much bigger but mostly household stuff and kids toys etc. Found a DVD of a Bill Murray film I'd not seen "Larger Than Life". Hazel got a few things including a fancy magic set in a wooden box, a moustache cup inscribed to a "Mr Harry Jones", some plants, an enamel bowl etc. It was nice to get back to the warm car.

Scrumping

This afternoons wander down the sunny community orchard to grab some apples for an upside down French apple tart. Hazel fancied taking one over to Daves. Nice stroll round the coot pond. One coot emerged from the reeds in quite a hurry. Quiet down there except for some dog walkers and the birds twittering. Earlier we went to two boot sales near Crewe at Vagrants - the last of the season and the other at Weston cricket club. I didnt find anything but Hazel got a few things including an enamel bread bin to put flour and pulses in. a toffee tin, and other stuff I forget but you can see them here in this here photo-

Double Boot Sales

Some interesting finds at todays double boot sales at Vagrants and Weston near Crewe. Hazel found all the bargains. I searched high and low but didn't find anything I wanted. I probably have enough junk now (collectables I mean!) . Hazel found lots of cheap cotton spools, some for embroidery ( not that she's ever done any to my knowledge ) . A glass bottle, a knitting thingy, a tin train in a battered box for me ( Easter present ), plants, a blouse , a cushion ( in the wash ) amd various other nick nackery. The Weston boot sale was larger but not so many bargains. Nice sunny day for a rummage. Was careful to use hand gel just in case. In the afternoon we went over to Hazel's Mom and sisters for Easter present exchange and a chat. Nice chat with our boy on the phone. He was having a meal with his girlfreind and flatmate. It sounded very nice.

First Boot Of The Year

Slim pickins at the first Vagrants boot sale of the year over near Nantwich. I got Archie a cowboy badge for his Sheriffs badge collection. Hazel found some sewing doodads and an old throat lozenge tin she remembers from her childhood. The other thing is a metal straw for drinking matte tea? Then over to the bigger boot sale at Weston - a drive of about 10 minutes further on. Not much here despite the crowds. We were only ones in masks - lots of coughing going on. Lovely sunny morning - a bit nippy though.

Vagrants and Stella and Brian Visit.

Busy day today so just got round to putting our boot sale bargains on here. Our old chums Stella and Brian came with us to the boot sale at Vagrants near Nantwich. They are on a road trip to see friends and family in their massive campervan. They stayed for lunch and we went for a nice walk to Marbury Woods this afternoon and then to Hazel's Mom's for a cup of tea and slice of lemon drizzle cake. Stella was a neighbour of Granma and Audrey's and hasn't seen them for 19 years so they had a lot to talk about. They came back to ours for cheese and crackers and now on the road to Bolton.

Boot Sale Fun

Pleasant trip out to Nantwich area this morning for two boot sales- both on cricket fields. The first at Vagrants was very busy but I couldn't find any bargains. Hazel bought a plant. The next a few miles further on was slightly more busy and proved the most abundant in bargains for us both - some excellent CD's ( not that I need any more!) from a kind lady who helped me pick out a few gems ( 50p each ) , such things as Salif Keita, Faka Toure, Songhai 2, etc. lots of "world music" to choose from most of which I had already in some form or other. She said she's sold lots earlier which made me wish I'd gone there first instead of the other one! O well, just as well. Hazel found a nice old black tin documents box, a fancy plate and a small ceramic bowl , and more plants!

Vagrants

Nice drive through Cheshire's leafy lanes to Vagrants near Nantwich for boot sale. Got a few bargains including some films I wanted to see again particularly the Bob Dylan doc. by Pennebaker. Nice old snakes and ladders board with wooden dice cup and counters. A battered "Striptease" card game that Hazel found. She also got some metal bits, hooks, a massive teaspoon, shelf brackets a table tennis trophy "Barnoldswick Winner 1956 Arnold Greene " , other bits and bobs. Just nice to walk around in the sunshine listening to odd snatches of conversations, some in Polish. Home again via the Co-op for some bread and salad stuff. Tried to get some ice cream wafers but they had sold out.

Vagrants and Rode Heath

Pleasant sunday wander around the last boot sale of the year at Vagrants near Crewe. Hazel got loads of rusty junk for her collection, plants and weird collectables including tin funnel, tin racing car, wooden pepper grinder and badges. I found a few DVD's including Picasso double ( recent C4 series ) and Waltz in Bashir. Then off to Alsager and meet up with Tony and Pene before they go off to Oz for their yearly visit. Nice lunch in local pub beer garden on the Trent & Mersey canal side. We had a walk along the canal tow path afterwards and Tony pointed out the cottage they almost bought on the edge of huge sunken salt mine. Then back to Alsager for home made cake and tea in the sunny garden.
