New Years Day 2024.

This mornings New Years Day walk in Lostock - from the station to the by-pass and round the village to Granma and Audrey's to wish them a HNY and empty their bins. O yes, we popped into the Coop on the way to get salad stuff and other bits we were lacking.Happy New Year to all my reader!

Happy New Year!

A quiet New Year's Eve away from the revellers. Hazel in her illuminated summer house listening to Radio 4 and me indoors watching David Byrne's "Utopia" that Archie bought me on DVD. I watched Jools "Hootenanny" upto midnight but by that time I was dozing off and wincing at Lulu murdering yet another favourite song! Lots of fireworks all evening - like being at the battle of the Somme! Glad to eventually get to bed at 12-15. Let's hope 2022 is an improvement upon 2021 which was mostly pretty crap.

New Year's Eve

Hazel lit many lamps and candles in the back garden as she does every year. At midnight we enjoyed the fireworks and some sparklers that Hazel had bought plus some from mail artist Julian Beere that he kindly gave us when he visited the Curious Things exhibition in Manchester recently. Also Hazel burned some old rotten logs in the Mexican stove that had been piled up for many a year.I watched a bit of Jools Hootenanny but it wasn't as good as previous years offerings.

New Year Starts!

Determined to update my blog posts more regularly this year - will see how far this goes - always start out with good intentions, like the diets! Hazel enjoyed brightening up the back garden with candles and twinkling lights as she does every year. No Archie this time to make his "match display" but plenty of eyeball delights despite the drizzle. Thankfully the rain stopped as we got nearer 2018. Surprise guests this year - Beth from round the corner came along armed with rum and coke - she brought her friend too for a nice chat and let some party poppers off and drink some toasts to the starry night and big moon. Lots of rockets this year from our neighbours entertained us too. I must admit I did watch a bit of Jool's Hootenanny but came outside at 11.55 to wish everyone well for 2018. Woke the next day with head feeling a little fuzzy from the proscecco. We intended going for a walk but the rain came in the afternoon so cancelled that for another day. Watching lots of crap on the telly mostly but did enjoy last two episodes of "Feud" a mini-series about the later years of fading film stars Bette Davies and Joan Crawford. I usually hate American dramas but this was above par and Alfred Molina was in it. Hazel made a loaf and I made another chestnut roast for dinner. Later on watched DVD of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 which wasn't as amusing as the first one. Yawn! Time to hit the sack!

Welcome to 2012

Blimey- it's windy out there - a gust caught my shopping bag whilst I was trying to stick a stamp on a letter by the postbox and tipped most of the contents out onto the street where they blew in all directions! Arrgh! Mad scramble for the precious things of the bag- namely letters, bus pass and library card. Lost a few receipts and bus tickets but they don't matter too much - they must be halfway to Chester by now!

That's Xmas and New year's Eve over for another year. Back to normal now with all the decorations and cards taken down and that feeling of living inside Miss Haversham's shed elimenated.

Also had a nice walk around Shakerley the other morning to see the ducks and other bird life on the lake. No ice this year but a bitter cold wind blowing so we didn't stay long.
My only NY Resolution is to produce at least one collage a day no matter how small or ill conceived it might be. Day two and two in the bag ( folder ) so on course so far - so good.

Another walk involved taking out lots of plastic carrier bags and filling them with the roadside detritus that the council doesn't pick up for some reason. We felt good about ourselves being so community spirited despite the odd looks from passing motorists who were probably responsible in the first place!

A relative of Key Hole Kate ( remember her?) that Hazel found at the antique place at the Crafts Centre the other day when she took Audrey over to do some shopping. She also got a big bag of candles from the candle shop. Audrey got some blue and white china so she was happy.
So that's Xmas and New year's over for another year - another decade zipped by at quite alarming speed! We have new toys to play with and more inches around the waste to loose. I'm not making any New Years resolutions though as I know from past experience they don't last past January. One collage a day maybe? We shall see.
Archie is home from his party at a friends and catching up with some sleep on the sofa. Hazel is making some bread in the bread machine. We intended on going for a walk but it's raining and murky. Catching up with some bloggage. Set recorder for Bee Story and Wall-E this afternoon. We had fakey bacon and scrambled egg sarnies for lunch. New Scrapiteria blog theme is "House" so off now to cut out some likely bits from the old mags that Will and Adela gave us for Crimble.
