Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Lovely couple of days in West Yorkshire visiting Archie and Meriel. Got to see the wonderful William Kentridge exhibition at the YSP before it finished at the end of the month. The video installations are particularly excellent. Lovely food and meet ups with old friends and assiociates. Weather was kind to us on Thursday but a bit grim yesterday. Good to see the house coming along. I took a few photos but camera ran out of juice.

West Yorkshire

Early drive over to Lostock to pick up Audrey who hasn't been very far for ages so a bit of an adventure for her. Nice for her to see Archie and Meriels new home too. Started off at 6-45am and the sun was coming up. Hazel had to wear her special glasses as not to be dazzled too much. The weather changed several times during the day - sleet = sun - hail - sun - cloudy - rain etc. Typical Yorkshire weather! Archie cooked us lunch and Tanya came too as she was driving Hazel over to Huddersfield to see the solicitor. I had a brief shuftie round the charity shops but didnt get anything. Brrr! it were right cold! Back home again around 2 so we missed the school run. Always seems faster going back for some reason.

Dropped Audrey off and went in for a cuppa and biscuit. Home by 4-30.

West Yorkshire

Lovely day out to West Yorshire to see how Archie and Meriel are settling in their new abode. They have done wonders so far but so much more to do. They are young and have the energy to do it. Meriel made a delicious tuna and tomato orzo pasta with salad and feta cheese. Yum! Went for a short walk to the weir and the local church yard. Sundays are best for driving early down those wiggly country lanes. Going home was a bit busier with a few idiot Sunday drivers to keep an eye out for.

West Yorkshire

Nice couple of days in Marsden mainly due to Archie and Meriel being there to help with house clearance that still goes on after all this time. Solicitors dragging their feet and other set backs. O well - at least we emptied the summer house of its soggy contents. Filled many bags with paint tins, mouldy wood, muddy crocks etc. Skip coming tomorrow - so hopefully a lot more gone by the time we go back. Tanya was there too to help out. She took a load to the tip. Took the sofa bed to pieces. Didnt sleep well due to lumpy mattress. Ugh! Nice to get back to our own bed and have a bath too. Weather a bit nippy - more like October!

Marsden Again

Nice but exhausting couple of days in West Yorkshire - sorting more Dave stuff and dismantling lots of Billy bookcases. Taking more books downstairs etc. Had time to have celebratory fish and chips courtesy of Dave's meal fund. Also looking out for the infamous Cuckoo Parade but we saw little sign of it. Also took Tanya along to the folk club. They allowed us to sit outside the sacred circle and listen for 30 minutes with a G&T ( Tanya had a lime and soda) . Nice bunch of folks. Hazel took some petals from Dave's garden to float in the river where Mo and his ashes were scattered ( 1st anniversary of his funeral.) Nice to be home again to rest our weary bones.

Marsden Again

A few snaps from our day in Marsden. Had a list of jobs to do. Went really early - up at 6am. Hazel and Archie measuring te outside of Dave's for some reason. Got the old war memorial plaque from the shed for a clean - being picked up by cemetary officials in Manchester to be included in collection of memorials. Some men who died in WW1 are also intered there. More mags humped downstairs to be picked up by MMU fashion course for library. VHS tapes sorted and piled up for disposal. etc. etc. Nice sunny start to day though very annoying for Hazel having to drive into bright sunshine. Better going home in the drizzle and gloom! Felt pleased we got so much done. Aching all over!

Marsden

A couple of days over in West Yorkshire with our old chum Dave Smith who is 83 today. We took some cake and candles and a lemon tart etc. Went out for a drink last night which made a nice change. Just a quick Guinness and Hot Chocolate for Hazel. A bit too nippy to be wandering aroud Marsden at night. When the carers had finished tucking Dave up in bed we went back for a chin-wag but we'd worn him out earlier with our chatter and he'd nodded off. Earlier in the day we went out briefly to check out the charity shops - found some cheap DVD's including some South Korean films I'd not heard of for 50p. Hazel found a gardening book . Busy roads today considering it's Sunday. Good to be home and our own bed.

Marsen and Slaitheswaite

Nice couple of days in West Yorkshire at Marsden and Slaithewaite. Stayed at our old friend Dave's place in Marsden. A nice walk around the town in the afternoon. Popped in the church as the organ was playing. Nobody but the chap guarding the book of condolence. Hazel felt obliged to sign but really we'd just come in to see the stained glass windows and the pillars etc. and hear the organ bouncing of the old stone walls. Stopped off at a couple of the charity shops. Found a lovely book about popular Indian art, posters, matchbox labels and murals etc. This morning in Slaitheswaite to buy some bread and pastries at the canalside bakery. Yum! Traffic a bit calmer coming home - no "school run" to contend with. 13th 14th Sept. 2022.

Marsden - West Yorkshire

Marsden - Visiting our old chum Dave. Went for a nice walk before the heavens opened again. Down by the stream and the canal. Helping to sort some cupboards and making more space. Bunting everywhere for the 70th Jubilee celebrations. Also popped into Slaithswaite to buy delicious pastries and bread from the artisan bakers. 1st. June 2022.

West Yorkshire

Rather rushed and traumatic visit to our friend Dave in West Yorkshire.  He'd fallen over a few times and even slept on the floor until another friend discovered him the next day!   Being rather stubborn and sefl sufficient it took a while to convince him that a hospital stay would be a good idea.  Eventually the lovely paramedic came and then after his assessment and our worried looks the ambulance came and Dave was packed off to the local infirmary where he still is and recovering slowly thankfully - a water infection or low blood pressure?  Who knows, but hopefully something simple and easily fixed though his double hip op. is still doubtful in the present climate.  We did have a chance to go for a walk nearby - along the canal and some lovely views of dry sone walls and weirs etc.  Very busy along the tow path which was hardly surprising as it was a such a sunny August day.
