Walk To River Dane

This mornings walk to the Community Garden and the fishing ponds - trying to avoid stepping on the froglets. Not as many as last year. The coots were still doing well though one family seemed to have lost a few. Hopefully they were hiding in the reeds. 12th June 2022.

Springtime For Frogs

My camera failed to take more than two snaps before the battery ran out this morning. Nice walk in the sunshine to the River Dane and the fishing ponds. Sat in the community orchard admiring the blossom on the cherry and plum trees. Lots of dog walkers about today- even a lone fisherman. He must have gone to the river as he wasn't by the pond as we walked round it. Lots of frogs were cavorting in the long grass - some sploshed into the water as we tip toed by. Some were having a piggyback! Expecting lots of tiny froglets soon like last year. We didn't know where to tread!

Plague Of Frogs!

Early morning walk to the fishing ponds and River Dane Community Orchard and amazed to find ourselves walking amongst hundreds of tiny froglets as we went round the largest of the ponds!   Blimey was difficult not to step on them!   Ugh!  Some were no bigger than a thumb nail. Hazel picked one up and it sat quite happily on her hand.  We had to tippy-toe around for fear of squashing them - squelch!  We have never seen so many at once.  I imagine the heron and other birds will enjoy a feast.
