Deep Joy

Two of my favourite people of all time- Prof. Stanley Unwin and Roland Emmett on Parkinson back in the 70's.

Ha ha ha! I've watched this three times in a row already. I do miss Stanley Unwin - he was always popping up somewhere on telly in the 70s.

By the way, the British Pathe website has a load of films of Roland Emett and his works, including a glorious short documentary shot at his house and workshop. And you can download preview copies for free!

Thanks for the British Pathe nod. I had seen them before but will go and watch again as they are so great. I was hoping for some fottgae of Far Tottering & Oster Creek railway he did for the festival of Britain but couldnt find any. Lots of festival of Britain stuff though. Shame the quality is rather poor. You have to fork out 90 quid to get a DVD copy which is outrageous!

*Hurriedly consulting my notes*

OK, if you put this number - 1447.04 - into the 'Film ID' box in 'Advanced Search' you'll get this film:

1447.04 - 1951 film featuring the FT&OC railway at Battersea Park.

Another tip - when you do a search make sure you spell Emett precisely like that, not Emmett (just one 'm' and two 't's).

Agreed that they charge scary prices for good quality files and DVD copies. But they license to TV and film companies with deep pockets, and that seems the going rate. I'm just glad that I can get free previews, even if I have to squint!

Thanks Trevira- I found the clip i was looking for! I knew it had to be there soemwhere! I actually have the other film of his studio on the extras of the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang DVD I bought from a Woolies sale a few years back for a pound! Sadly It won't copy due to some pesky inbuilt code. Worth looking out for though.

Thanks for posting this Michael. Great stuff. I hadn't seen this before. And they've both got the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang connection.

Hi Ron, yes I had forgotten that Stanley had been in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as well. Maybe the film was out when they did this Parkinson show and it was part of the publicity for it?
