Lower Back Pain

Woke up yesterday with back ache which got progressively worse as the day went on. I foolishly walked into town and struggled round the shops and back. I didnt find much of interest. The pain got worse and by the time I got home I was stooped like a geriatric. Everything seems to be breaking down- my back, the washing machine won't spin, the PC has crashed and the CD player has given up!

The most uncomfortable and sleep deprived night since the recent illness. Poor Hazel- she didnt get much either. I woke up with terrible shooting pains when I tried to get out of bed. It took me ages to figure out a way to do it. IT's still only 5-30am and I have a heat patch on and taken some pain killers. They say that exercise is good- all very well for them to say!
I managed to dress myself but Hazel had to put my socks and sandals on. They didn't suit her so I had to put them on.

much sympathy, Michael. I have had the same problem. Woke up one day and could barely move for a week. It's 3 years later and it still hurts, but they tell me it's not bad enough for surgery. Apparently though, many cases clear up after a few days or few weeks rest. Hope yours falls in that category.

thanks fifi. I know exactly why thyis happens. Its my addiction to the internet and sitting for hours in a very uncomfortable chair! I had the same thing happen about 6 months ago. It lasted about a week and gradually got better. Hoping this will be easier to shake off but this morning it was just as bad but I managed to put my own socks on with a struggle so probably not so bad as yesterday. The spine shrinks in the night ofcourse so it takes a while to get back to normal. I dont think I'll be walking to town for a few days anyway.

The only words of advice I can give...When you sit, put something under your foot to raise your knee. When you lie down, try to keep your knees bent...Easy if on your side but harder if on your back...a pillow may be needed under them. If you stand, put a block or something to prop on of your feet on. It takes the strain off your back.

This helped me when I had similar pain. Mine went away eventually. My husband's didn't. He had a bad disc and had to have surgery, but hopefully yours won't come to that.
I also know what Hazel is going through, after helping him put his socks and shoes on for six weeks.

Sorry about your miseries.

Thanks cate- I will try and remember those hints. The pain isnt so bad now and I actually had a bath today which helped a lot - the healing powers of warm water! No wonder poeple went to spas for aches and pains.

Hopefully will be back to normal before too long.
I sneezed today and it made me yelp like anything!
