Rotten Thursday- Good Friday

Happy Easter to all. What have we been up to these last few days? Let me think?.....Err ummm? Oh yes, it was a busy day for Hazel on Wednesday when she had to take the rabbit to the eye clinic, Archie to the vets to have his nails trimmed and Granma to the .... no wait a minute, I've got that all wrong? It was Granma to the vets to have her bottom scraped, Archie to the eye clinic to have chipped tooth fixed... not it was the rabbit to the dentist to have her teeth pointed at and errrr.... my memory is terribly bad these days! It wasa busy day anyway and all those jobs got done. Good job Hazel had the car to do it.
Archie has been working on his latest animation and it's looking good. About two thirds done. They have been in the garden and weeded and seeded. I walked to town yesterday and didnt get much in the bargain department. Being a 4 day. I got my haircut though so lucky the place was empty. The barber was playing on his PSP. A new game called "Short Back & Sides". Felt a bit drafty round the old lug-holes when I came out. My old Dad would be pleased though. My hair was a constant source of displeasure to him. He often called me the Wild Man of Borneo! (amongst other things!)
I've been working on some collages- some for the Viv Stanshall yahoo group. The one above is quite old but thought it appropriate for Easter. Nice and sunny here so hopefully going out for a walk later.

Nice blog you have there. Got on it through our common interest in the (music of) Bonzo Dog Band, unforgettable are very very English indeed to a continental European like me.

Good Friday is sunny this year, and I am going to hear my old mother sing the Mattheus Passion in the Great Church (yes, in both meanings) of the lovely old little town of Veere, Zeeland, South-west Holland. Not being religious myself (being brought up in a humanistic family sharing human values) I do feel a deep shivering emotion every time I hear one of the Passions live, sung by ordinary people becoming very UNordinary.

Harmony - that's the word that comes in mind: all those individual voices coming together in one piece, lasting for as long as they breathe and sing, and at the same time being lifted by the music themselves. A mystic experience of togetherness and timelesness.

Wish you (all) a very good Easter!

Yours,

Eelco van der Waals

Ah, the Bonzo Dog Band.

I wonder if they went to the Netherlands?

I can imagine their humour going down well in Holland. I've seen some very funny acts there.

Meanwhile - we had rain today here in the south. When is this sunny weather we were promised going to arrive?

Hello Roger (strange for a Dutchman to start with Roger: I always hear astronauts END their message with it...)

> Ah, the Bonzo Dog Band.

I'm afraid not.

> I can imagine their humour going down well in Holland. I've seen some very funny acts there.
No wonder, we have so much in common with the Britsh: dullness, always rain, poor kitchen. Enough reason to compensate and sublimate in funny things, I'd say.

You see how right I am?

Yours, Eelco

Thanks Eelco for your comments. Most welcome. Do you know the Splusp Yahoo group? It is run by a nice dutchman called Jan who has a fine sense of humour - always posting strange and odd ( sometimes very MOR) dutch language humour which is completely lost on me! But I can tell that the dutch like Spike Jones and similar novelty songs. I can't remember the name now but a dutch Spike Jones has been played recently and other nonsense.
Like you say- we have to cheer ourselves up somehow with all this rain and cloudy days!

That was me by the way - Hazel and I often forget to log off and so get our names mixed up! It can be very confusing at times!

Saw a band in Holland called (I think) Dog Troupe. Not sure if they were Dutch or American. Very funny though.

Also saw The Flying Pickets there many years ago.

And fell in love there also.
