Topper from '67

I found some more annuals today from the same charity shop. Putting these away for Archie's birthday as he's had so many treats just lately. Also got a Beezer and another Topper from the 60's. This old photo was taken around that time in 1967 at the Southend Art School sports day. Here's the motley collection of staff and students who bothered to turn up. I was in the tug of war, as I have a photo of that somewhere, but don't remember any other events? The tossing the beret, the leaping over the easel, the putting the palette etc.
Went by Shank's Pony to town today and back. Found a new CD by Planxty in the library. I have a couple of their albums from the 80's which I still enjoy listening to. That Irish folk music never really ages. Some wonderful uillean? pipe playing on it.
I should have some Planxty lined up for the music file but have some strange frenchman singing a song in spanish instead!

Spanish song by a Frenchman?

This You Send It file is availble for seven days or until exhausted.

After the Beano, Dandy, Topper and Beazer - I graduated to The Rover, Hotspur, Wizard ... er... and another one whose name I forget.

Did they ever publish any annuals? Do you ever come across that stuff?

Had a good time in Wolverhampton. Work, mind. I went on the train so I couldn't just pop up and see you for a cuppa.

Yeah, I used to get all those too but not as regularly as the Eagle which was my favourite. It had Dan Dare and those sectioned drawings of planes and boats etc. I used to sellotape on my bedroom wall. You can get Wizard , Hotspur, etc annuals - go and look here. This guy has an amazing collection.
We have'nt found many of these unfortunately.
Glad to hear Wolverhapton was good. Nevermind, we shall come down on the train and see you instead - in the summer hols.

I had the Eagle too for a while. Loved Dan Dare.

Did you ever listen to Dan Dare on Radio Luxembourg? I have a very hazy memory of it.
I wonder if the tapes still exist?

I listened to Radio Luxembourg under the bedclothes at night like so many others of my generation but i don't remember Dan Dare so much as people like Pete Murray , Garner Ted Armstrong and David Jacobs etc.playing all the pop hits that BBC didnt play.
You can still get the ~Dan dares in mp3 form via the chap who sells CD-r's of all those old radio shows. I recently go the Spike Jones shows from him and Steptoe and Son. 80 shows on one CD-R ! They are a bit compressed ofcourse but nice to have and still very funny.
