This could be magic.

We have been let off lightly by the bad weather that seems to have blighted some parts of Scotland and northern England. The winds have died down and was able to walk into town with a bright blue sky above. Found a wonderful heavy book in a charity shop called "THE EARTH FROM THE AIR - 365 DAYS" with fantastic aerial photos taken by Yann Arthus- Bertrand . He has a website that can be found here.
In another charity shop found a video of that great Coen Brothers film "The Big Lebowski"- so not a bad day for bargains. Mind you, I think my arms have stretched an inch or so longer after carrying that weighty tome home!
Hazel and Archie are in the garden as I write this filling up the green wheelie-bin for tomorrows "recycling" day - once a fortnight they come to collect our garden rubbish, bottles, cans and paper. Hazel is burning the card, which they don't take (for some weird reason?) in the mexican pot-bellied stove. It's making a fine plume of smoke and flame in the twilight.

That is strange isn't it? They don't take card here in East Sussex either. Is burning it the best thing?

I don't know if it;s the best thing but Hazel enjoys a nice fire - she's a crazy firestarter!

They take cardboard here, but it has to be torn or folded and placed in a paper bag. They'll take a bag full of cardboard but not a cardboard box full of paper... now that's odd.

mine...Hazel is much more
efficient, recycling...I
burned small logs just for
the glow and warmth.
You make me embarrased with
my amateur collage, Michael...
Yours are so well done!
And of Archie...how go the
animations?

The Big Lebowski is one of my all time favorites. It's truly a comedy classic. I like John Goodman and Jeff Bridges in the Dylan movie Masked and Anonymous too. That one's not really a comedy, but it has it's funny moments...

Sounds like you found some great bargains! Are you going to keep that book intact or are you going to use it for collage?

We have recycling here in Houston and also heavy trash day once a month where you can put out big items like furniture. Do you have that there? You'd be shocked to see some of the great things people throw out on that day. I should do a blog entry on it. Drive around town photographing the stuff. If we get too much furniture from an auction or estate sale, we place it outside on our driveway with a FREE sign and it's normally gone within 1 hour.

Not seen that Dylan film Ed. I will have to look out for it. Looking forard to seeing the Coen Brothers film again - they are one of my favourites.Barton Fink, Raising Arizona, O Brother Where Art Thou? etc. some classic comedies.
Not sure about furniture Angelica - I think you have to phone up the relevant dept. and get them to collect it for a small fee.
The book is far too good to cut up. Now I have access to a scanner i can photo-copy the page I like and use that.

Syl, your collages are great and don't let anybody tell you different!
Archie has just gone off to play with his chum James, at james' house. His Granma will drop him off later on the way to take James to judo. he is working on some new animations, the latest is over a minute long! Quite an epic! he's doing one for Roger's poetryzone too but that might take a while.

I agree. Great collages, Syl - very nice.

You'll have to give us a
heads up when Archie finishes
the flash for Roger's Poetryzone
so we can all see!
Thanks for the encouragement...
